NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

The National Service Scheme was started to establish a meaningful linkage between the campus and the community. The major aim of the National Service Scheme is to provide opportunities to the students to involve themselves in social activities and ultimately to develop their personality. There are three NSS units, Unit Numbers - 71, 80 and 137 under Manonmaniam Sundaranar University and the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. NSS activities have been divided into two major groups, namely Regular activities and Special camping programme.

Regular Activities:
Under this, students undertake various programmes in the adopted villages, college campuses and urban slums during weekends or after college hours. Duration of these services is 120 hours per year.

Special Camping Programme:
Under this, camps of 7 days duration are organized in adopted villages or urban slums with some specific projects by involving local communities. From each unit 50 percent of the volunteers (50 Volunteers are expected to participate in this camp. The NSS units- 71, 80, 137 Team cleaned the academic campus and public places were the best possible way. There was a significant change after this drive.
